About Me

Hello, I’m Karuna,

My life experiences have been a combination of joy and pain like for most. I am foremost grateful to my daughter for her encouragement that led me to the helping profession and the well wishes of my family and friends. 

My biggest learning is that life can get complicated. As human beings, we witness a range of experiences and emotions where we find ourselves in problem situations. Such are the dynamics of life as they are ever-changing. 

What we encounter is personal to us and how we cope is unique. It is not uncommon to feel lonely and alienated while we are stormed by troubled thoughts, behaviours and emotions. 

In such times it is reassuring to know that we have support in counselling. This secure one-on-one connection is exclusive and we co-create the direction you desire as you learn to give yourself what you need.

My counselling interventions are strength-based and an integration of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy and Mindfulness. This permits me to structure a combination of therapeutic approaches for you as no one size fits all.

Qualification and Memberships
Therapy

ACT involves recognizing our thoughts and behaviours with mindfulness as a key component. Clients learn to witness and experience difficult feelings rather than brushing them off. They attentively develop an awareness that these arise and will pass. ACT in addition aids to introspect our core values which allows us to be true to ourselves and our goals.

CBT targets reframing and challenging our negative thoughts, behaviours & feelings. We work together to identify your triggers and set take home tasks which help strengthen new neural pathways which aid you to think constructively.

SFBT lays emphasis on the client’s current and future goals. The focus is for the client to identify their inherent strengths to find their own solutions and prioritise what they desire.

Here’s what I do. I invite you to discuss anything you would like to explore from the past, present, or future about yourself or your experiences.

I love listening to your story with care and compassion. I firmly believe there is always help for any person needing support in all domains of life. I focus on giving my ears to my clients within a non-judgmental and private space. I relate that people often need an external and unbiased person to feel heard when they are vulnerable. My objective is to collaborate with my clients, so they become empowered in making their own choices towards self-growth and attaining optimum mental health. I work at your pace and prod you to identify that within you lies the courage and potential to reach your desired aspirations.

I assist individual adults aged 18 and above and children aged 15 and above for school and academic pressure. I provide a caring environment where you can be you and express yourself. We work collaboratively to unravel any stumbling blocks that might be preventing you from working in your best interest. We review together how you manage your life and highlight and expand on your expertise as you know yourself best.

All sessions are strictly confidential as per ethical guidelines and by appointment. Counselling is conducted Online in English or Hindi. In our first session, which is the intake session, I am interested to get to know you, what has brought you to counselling and the challenges you want to address. This assessment will enable me to have a better understanding of you and the appropriate trajectory.

True self care is not salt baths and chocolate cake, it is making the choice to build a life you don't need to regularly escape from.
